Welcome to the Scout Troop of 17th Harrow.
Meetings are on a Friday during term time from 7pm to 9pm.
Unless otherwise notified, FULL UNIFORM is required.

Who can join?
The 17th Harrow Scout section caters for boys and girls from school year groups Year 6 to Year 9.
When do we meet?
The 17th Harrow Scout Troop meets every Friday during term time at the Scout HQ, between 7p.m. and 9pm
There are other activities, such as camps and competitions, which take place at other times.
What do we do?
SAFE SCOUTING
At Scouts, young people have a chance to do lots of things they wouldn’t normally get to do. We want young people to push themselves, learn new skills and have a chance to practice being brave.
However, this doesn’t mean that we put our young people at unnecessary risk and all of our leadership team members have received trainign in order to help to prevent them from harm.
2023 sees the Troop is organised into five patrols – Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, Kestrels & Owls.
Each patrol is lead by a Patrol Leader (PL), and they are supported by an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL).
The Scouts take part in a wide range of games and activities, supported by the Scouting award scheme through which the Scouts can gain badges.
The meetings starts with a flag break and patrol inspection and ends with a prayer and flag down. It is important that Scouts arrive in uniform ready for flag break promptly at 7pm , so that the meeting can get underway quickly. Mobile phones should ideally be left at home, but if they are carried for safety reasons they should be switched off during meetings and handed in to a Leader.
Points are awarded to each patrol for their punctuality and uniform. By the same token, if a Scout is not present for inspection, they loose points for their Patrol and missing items from uniform also loose points. At the end of each term, the aim is to have a “winning patrol”.
How much does it cost?
Each Scout pays a subscription fee annually. Please contact a leader for the current subscription rate.
Other activities such as camps or visits may incur an additional cost, but these we do our best to ensure that these costs are kept to a minimum. If your child would like to attend an activity, but you are unable to do so due to financial reasons, please contact Tony (Group Scout Leader) if you would like to discuss this.
Personal details
In order to contact Scouts or parents, to be aware of any medical or dietary requirements, and to monitor progress through the award scheme, it is necessary for certain personal information about the Scouts to be kept by the leaders. This information is not shared with any individual or organisation outside of Scouting.
In order to keep “paperwork” to a minimum, details of Troop events are sent out via email.
Requirements
The Troop has a Code of Conduct, drawn up by the Scouts and the Scout Leader, which governs acceptable behaviour and which every Scout is expected to follow. A copy of the requirements and an explanation is given to all Scouts at the beginning of every term. In some cases Scouts may be excluded from activities if their conduct is offensive to others.
What we need from the parents…
Once a year the Scout Group holds an Annual General Meeting, where annual reports and accounts are presented, officers are elected, and the achievements of the Scouts in all our sections are recognised. We do request that parents should attend this – it’s a chance to meet the team of leaders at 17th Harrow, and the “business part” of the AGM is kept very brief.
We also try to have an annual Family Camp which is a great social event, and gives parents the opportunity to join in the fun and see the type of activities their children get involved in (and even get the change to take part!). In order to attend, all parents/guardians are required to complete a DBS application, this helps to ensure the safety of all the children involved with the Group.
