Busy making Easter Nests on Zoom!

We made some amazing rock cakes and scones!

Rocket Science gave 10,000 UK schools or groups the opportunity to engage their pupils in a UK-wide live science experiment to contribute to our knowledge of growing plants in space.We were lucky enough to be one of the groups selected.

The history of the seeds
Two kilograms of rocket (Eruca sativa) seeds were launched on Soyuz 44S on the 2nd  September 2015 with European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen and his crew, arriving on the International Space Station (ISS) two days later. British ESA astronaut Tim Peake took charge of the seeds while on the ISS for his Principial mission that started in December.

They remained on the ISS for six months in microgravity and at 04:26am on Tuesday 2nd March, Commander Scott Kelly of NASA and Russian cosmonauts Mikhail Kornienko and Sergey Volkov of Roscosmos landed safely back on Earth in Kazakhstan.

The seeds then travelled with Scott Kelly to NASA in Houston on a charter flight from Moscow, Russia and returned to the UK on Thursday 4th March.

We then received our Rocket Science experiment pack on the 19th April and our experiment began!

The Beavers planted the seeds on the 19th and have been watching them ever since!

Mrs Madden has done most of the HARD work, which has involved watering them every day and constant measuring!

We ended the experiment together on the 24th May and the data has now been sent off.

We eagerly await their reply to see which packet went to space… Red or Blue!
